Accessibility
How Aanonimy works for people with disabilities, what is still being worked on, and how to reach us.
We want everyone to be able to use Aanonimy, including people who use a screen reader,
larger text, or reduced motion. We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
(WCAG 2.1) Level AA as our guide. We are working
toward it; Aanonimy does not yet meet every part of it, and the gaps we know about are listed
below.
What the Android app supports
From Android version 3.22.18:
- Screen readers (TalkBack). Buttons that show only an icon — Back, Close,
Send, Like, Dislike, Repost, Mute and others — have spoken names, and buttons that switch on
and off say which state they are in.
- Larger text. Text follows the font size you choose in your phone's
settings, up to twice the standard size.
- Reduced motion. When "Remove animations" is on in your phone's
accessibility settings, the start-up and loading logos hold still (no pulsing or zooming)
and the chat screen moves without sliding animations.
- Readable text. We check informational text against a minimum contrast
ratio of 4.5 to 1 and fix what falls below it.
How we check it
Our automated tests check that icon buttons have spoken names, that text follows your size
setting, and — on key screens such as purchasing — tap-target size and text contrast. We also
go through the main screens by hand with Android's accessibility tools.
Known limitations
- Videos and voice messages posted by users do not have captions or transcripts.
- Text that users place over photos and videos is not checked for contrast.
- Some less-used screens have not yet been fully tested with a screen reader.
- Some animations — for example loading placeholders and screen transitions — do not yet
follow the "Remove animations" setting.
- The iPhone app has not been released yet. It will get the same support.
