Terms of Use

These Terms are the agreement between you and the person who operates Aanonimy. We have tried to write them plainly. Where a clause limits what you can expect from us, it says so directly rather than hiding it in length.

1. Agreement

By creating an account or using Aanonimy, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Our Privacy Policy is incorporated by reference.

2. The Service

Aanonimy is a social app for posting and messaging. It offers end-to-end encrypted messaging and lets you post and message anonymously under a pseudonym.

The service is free. Optional one-time purchases add credits for anonymous posts (Section 10).

Some features in these Terms β€” editing posts and comments, and automatic translations β€” reach people through app updates. Where your version of the app does not have a feature yet, you cannot use it. Other users on a newer version may still see automatic translations of what you post, and a post you see may have been edited even if your version does not show that it was (Section 7).

2a. Accessibility

We want people with disabilities to be able to use Aanonimy. The app is built to work with screen readers (TalkBack on Android), follows the text size you set on your phone up to twice the standard size, turns off its main animations when your phone is set to remove animations, and aims to keep informational text readable against its background. We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as our guide and are working toward it; not every part of the service meets it yet.

Our Accessibility page lists what is supported, the limitations we know about, and how to reach us. If something stops you from using Aanonimy, email info@aanonimy.com with the subject "Accessibility" and we will work with you to find a way.

This section describes how we build Aanonimy. It is not a promise that every feature works with every assistive technology or device (see Section 14).

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old.

Aanonimy is not offered in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, and is not made available to download there.

4. Your Account

You are responsible for your credentials and for activity on your account, and must give accurate registration information. Tell us promptly at info@aanonimy.com if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

5. Acceptable Use

Prohibited content:

Prohibited behaviour:

Enforcement. We may remove content, restrict features, or terminate accounts.

Child safety

We explicitly prohibit child sexual abuse and exploitation. Where we obtain actual knowledge of such material we remove it, preserve the material and the associated records, report it to the authorities, and disable the account responsible. We report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), which refers reports to law enforcement worldwide. Where a case appears connected to Jamaica, we also report it to the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) and, where a child may be at risk, to the Office of the Children's Registry.

You can report content and accounts of this kind from within the app, and we act on those reports first.

5a. Users' Actions and Any Harm β€” No Liability

Everything posted, sent or done on Aanonimy is posted, sent or done by the user who did it, not by us. We do not review content before it is published (new and edited posts, comments and replies are checked automatically after publication β€” Section 9), and we cannot read message content because it is end-to-end encrypted (Section 8). Each user is solely responsible for what they post, send and do, and for its consequences β€” including any illegal act.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Aanonimy and its operator are not liable for, and cannot be held accountable for:

Aanonimy is not a crisis, medical, counselling or emergency service, and does not monitor for people at risk. Automated checks may flag content about self-harm for our moderators; that is not monitoring or an intervention. If you or someone else is in danger, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line straight away.

You use the service at your own risk. If you see something illegal or against these Terms, report it (Section 9). We act on reports, and we cooperate with law enforcement where the law requires it (Section 6). Nothing in this section limits our child-safety commitments in Section 5, and nothing in it excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

6. Anonymity β€” What It Does and Does Not Do

Anonymity here means other users cannot see who you are. It does not mean we cannot. We hold the link between your account and your pseudonyms, and will disclose it where legally required or to investigate serious harm.

Anonymity is not a shield for abuse. Anonymous content is subject to Section 5 in full, and anonymous accounts are enforced against in the same way.

Anonymous messages are opt-in. A new account does not receive them; you turn them on in Account settings and can turn them off at any time. In an anonymous chat you can block or report the other side. Blocking a pseudonym stops anonymous messages from it; it does not reveal, and does not affect, the account behind it.

7. Your Content

You keep ownership of what you post. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process and display it for the purpose of operating the service β€” and to deliver it to the people you send it to. This includes translating your posts, comments and replies when another user asks, and storing and showing those translations; showing your content inside reposts; and showing the earlier versions of a post you edited. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we must retain by law and the copies described in this section and in the Privacy Policy Section 8.

You confirm you have the right to post what you post.

Editing. You can edit a post within one hour of posting it, at most twice. An edited post is marked as edited, and anyone who can see it can also see its earlier versions, including earlier photos and videos, until the post is deleted β€” this applies to anonymous posts too. Reposts show the edited post. You can edit the words of a comment or reply while the comments you wrote it in are still open; it is marked β€œEdited”, and its earlier words are kept for our moderators only. Editing does not remove what you posted before; only deleting does. Edited content must follow Section 5 like anything else, and is checked in the same way (Section 9).

Translations. The app can show an automatic translation of a post, comment or reply. Automatic translations can be wrong, and a translation is not the words its author wrote: the original is always shown above it, and the original is what counts. We are not responsible for errors in a translation. THIS SERVICE MAY CONTAIN TRANSLATIONS POWERED BY GOOGLE. GOOGLE DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES RELATED TO THE TRANSLATIONS, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AND ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

If we remove your content for breaking these Terms, we keep a copy of it. The copy exists so that a removal can be appealed and reversed, and so that acting on a report is not what destroys the evidence. It is deleted with your account. Child-safety material is the one exception, and the Privacy Policy Section 8 says so.

7a. Third-Party Services

Operating the app involves Google β€” Firebase (sign-in, database, storage, notifications, Crashlytics and Analytics), PostHog for product analytics, Google Play, the Google Places and Geocoding APIs for place search, and Google AdMob for advertising β€” together with RevenueCat for purchase validation, OpenAI for automated moderation of new and edited posts, comments and replies, Microsoft Translator, Google Cloud Translation and Google's Gemini model on Vertex AI for translations, Google ML Kit for detecting languages on your device, and Spacemail, which hosts our email. Their terms and privacy practices also apply to you. See the Privacy Policy Section 9 for the full list.

8. Encryption

Message content is end-to-end encrypted; we cannot read it. Posts, comments and profile information are not encrypted this way. Full detail, including what metadata we necessarily process, is in the Privacy Policy Section 5.

If you forget your password and sign in on a new device, previously received encrypted messages are permanently lost. We cannot recover them because we never hold your keys. This is a consequence of the encryption, not a defect.

9. Reporting and Enforcement

You can report content, and accounts β€” including an anonymous sender β€” in the app.

We review reports within a reasonable time, and reports about child safety first. We do not promise a fixed timescale, and we do not tell you the outcome of a report you make about someone else.

Automated checks. New and edited posts, comments and replies β€” their text, photos and a still frame of each video β€” are checked automatically, using a word list and an automated classifier provided by OpenAI. Anything flagged goes to a person, who decides; an automated check does not remove content on its own. Voice recordings and private messages are not checked automatically.

10. Purchases

Anonymous-post credits are sold as one-time purchases, not subscriptions:

ProductCredits
anonymous_posts_33
anonymous_posts_88

Prices are shown in the app before you buy and vary by region and currency.

Purchases are processed by Google Play. Credits are added once Google confirms the purchase.

Refunds. We do not issue refunds ourselves. Refunds are handled by Google under Google Play's refund policy. Where Google refunds a purchase, the corresponding credits may be removed from your balance; your balance is never taken below zero, and posts already published are not removed. Your statutory rights for faulty or undelivered purchases are unaffected.

Credits. Credits β€” whether purchased or granted free β€” have no cash value, cannot be transferred or exchanged, and are forfeited when your account is deleted or terminated. We may change or withdraw free credits at any time.

11. Availability

The service is provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation or that any feature will remain available, and we may change or discontinue features without notice.

12. Termination

You may delete your account at any time in the app. Deletion takes effect after a 14-day grace period. Simply signing back in during those 14 days cancels the deletion β€” you do not need to contact us.

We may suspend or terminate an account for breach of these Terms β€” including when a moderator, acting on reports from other users, finds that an account broke them. A suspended account can still sign in, read, and use Account notices and appeals, but cannot post, comment, reply or message until the suspension is lifted. An account we terminate for repeated copyright infringement is deleted on the same 14-day path as a deletion you request yourself, except that signing in does not cancel it; the same applies to a deletion a moderator starts. An account terminated for a child-safety violation is disabled immediately: it can no longer sign in, and its records are preserved for law enforcement. To contest an action on your account, email info@aanonimy.com from the address on the account; removals of individual posts, comments and replies can also be appealed in the app. Provisions that by their nature survive termination β€” disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, governing law β€” continue to apply.

13. Intellectual Property

We own the Aanonimy name, logo, design, and software. Your content and other users' content are not ours. Nothing here grants you a licence to copy or redistribute our software or branding.

The app includes third-party open-source components. Their licences and attributions are available in the app.

14. Disclaimer of Warranties

15. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for any loss or harm arising from other users' actions or content, or from any matter described in Section 5a.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of USD 100 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions. Where that is so, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law and the above may not apply to you.

16. Indemnity

You will indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your use of the service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of anyone's rights.

17. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Jamaica, and disputes will be brought in the courts of Kingston, Jamaica.

Choosing Jamaican law does not displace mandatory consumer protections that follow you in your own country. This section settles which law governs the contract, not which regulators can reach us.

18. Copyright Complaints

We respect intellectual property rights and expect you to do the same. Do not post content you do not have the right to post.

If you believe content on Aanonimy infringes your copyright or another intellectual property right, send us a notice at aanonimy.com/copyright or by email to info@aanonimy.com. A notice must identify the work, identify the content on Aanonimy (a link from the app's Copy link option is best), give your contact details, and include the two sworn statements set out on that page, with your signature. Only the rights-holder, or someone acting for them, can send a notice.

We take reasonable measures to remove infringing material expeditiously once we become aware of it. When we act on a valid notice we remove the content, every repost of it, and the media file; the person who posted it is told that a copyright complaint was received and can send a counter-notice. A counter-notice is sent by email to info@aanonimy.com and must give your name, address and telephone number; identify the removed material; state under penalty of perjury a good-faith belief that it was removed by mistake or misidentification; consent to the jurisdiction of a United States federal court and agree to accept service of process from the person who sent the notice; and be signed. (An in-app appeal is reviewed too, but on its own it is not a counter-notice.) If we receive a valid counter-notice, we send it to you, and unless you tell us within 10 to 14 business days that you have filed a court action, the content may be restored.

Repeated infringement ends the account. Three notices actioned against the same account within twelve months suspend it from posting, commenting, replying and messaging until those complaints are settled — a suspension is lifted only when the notices behind it have been resolved, whether by a successful counter-notice, withdrawal by the claimant, or our review closing the matter; a fourth deletes the account. We keep a record of every notice.

Our designated agent for copyright notices is listed at aanonimy.com/copyright, where notices can also be sent.

19. General

If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us about Aanonimy. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to a successor operator, including a company we form; you may not transfer yours. If we do not enforce a term, we have not given it up.

20. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted with a new β€œlast updated” date. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.

Language. The app can be used in several languages, but these Terms are written in English. A summary of a change may be shown in the app's language for convenience; the English text is the one that applies.
